Directions

The Doctor’s Parkette is located at the northeast corner of the intersection of College St and Brunswick Ave. This intersection is located halfway between the intersections of College St and Bathurst St and College St and Spadina Ave. The parkette is just west of the Kensington Health building and east of Sue Fung’s Dimsum Canteen.

Transit

The nearest subway station is Queen’s Park, which is wheelchair accessible. The parkette is 1.1 km (a 16 min walk) west from the station if you stay on College St. Alternatively, you can take the 506 College streetcar from Queen’s Park station west to Augusta Ave, then head 110 m west to arrive at the parkette. You can also take the 511 Bathurst streetcar from Bathurst station south to College St, then head 350 m east. Or, take the 510 Spadina replacement bus from Spadina station south to College St, then head 350 m west. Both Bathurst station and Spadina station are wheelchair accessible.

Free PRESTO tickets will be available at the food table for anyone to take, while supplies last.

Parking

The Kensington Medical Building has a paid surface lot with an $8/hr fee and a paid underground lot with a $6/hr fee. The fee for both lots increases to $10/hr during evenings (starting 5 pm). There are lots of side streets where street parking may be available, but make sure to check the street signs.

Biking

Bike parking is available anywhere you can lock your bike too! Single bike racks shaped as uppercase phi (ϕ) are located all across the south and north sides of College St. Both Bathurst station and Spadina station have bicycle lock-ups.

Collge St has two unidirectional, dedicated bike lanes from Manning Ave to Bay St. Brunswick Ave has a contraflow bike lane from Lowther St to Ulster St, then a sharrow bike lane from Ulster St to College St. Alternatively, Ulster St has a contraflow bike lane from Borden St to Brunswick Ave, while Borden St has a contraflow bike lane from Ulster St to College St.

Flooring and Walkways

The bike lane on the north side of College St has a smooth transition to sidewalk. The curb is cut at the north side of the intersection of College St and Brunswick Ave, and at all nearby intersections.

The parkette consists of an elevated area on the west side of the parkette, and a lower area on the east side of the parkette. Both areas are wheelchair accessible. The elevated area is unpaved with a bumpy mosaic tile pattern and 3 m (10 ft) wide walkways. The lower area is unpaved but smooth, with 1.5 m (3 ft) wide walkways. There is a flight of stairs with three steps connecting the elevated and lower areas.

There is no grass at the parkette.

Washrooms

The nearest public, gender-neutral, and wheelchair accessible washrooms are at Lillian H. Smith Library, which is 500 m east (a 7 min walk) from the parkette. The library supplies free menstrual products.

Food and Allergens

The grill will only be used to cook the vegan hot dogs. Limited amount of gluten free buns will be available, but given the outdoor nature of the event we can not guarantee cross-contamination will be prevented, especially with condiments and food that other people are bringing. You can expect the park to have pollen.

Seating

There is ample seating at the parkette. It features twelve wide benches with dividing armrests, eight of which have back support. None are cushioned.

COVID Safety

Stay home if you feel sick or have symptoms.

We are requiring all attendees to wear KF94/KN95/N95 or better masks while not eating. Masks will be provided at the event. Masks must cover your nose and mouth when worn.

This is an outdoor event in a public park. There will be no air purifiers or UV lights. There will not be a dedicated area for eating and drinking. You may cross paths with people taking their masks off to eat or random unmasked passerbys. The day is forecasted to have a humidity of 62-88%.

Please perform two rapid antigen tests for COVID 48 hours apart prior to the event and stay home if you test positive. We also ask that you notify us if you test positive in the 14 days after the event. If an attendee notifies us of a positive test, we will post an update on our website while keeping the attendee anonymous.

Photos and Surveillance

Ask for consent before taking photos or recordings of people. Note that hostile actors aiming to record and/or dox attendees may be present. The Kensington Health building has one CCTV camera on the southeast corner of the building facing the parkette. However, the parkette provides plenty of cover for people who wish to avoid surveillance when unmasking to eat or drink.

We will provide take-home options if you prefer to eat elsewhere.

Drug Use

Naloxone kits, syringe kits, straws, alcohol swabs, fentanyl strips, and a sharps container will be provided at the harm reduction table, but we will not be acting as a supervised consumption service. The nearest SCS that will be open during the event is Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre (168 Bathurst St), which is 1.5 km southwest of the parkette. There are bathrooms at Lillian H. Smith Library, but they do not incorporate harm reduction.

If you unmask to smoke, we will ask that you leave the event area while smoking.

Heat Safety

We will provide water for attendees and cold soft drinks while supplies last. There are plenty of shaded areas nearby on College St and on Brunswick Ave. Lillian H. Smith Library has A/C if you need to cool down. We will have a first aid kit and electrolytes ready in case of emergencies.

Fragrance

Please refrain from wearing or using scents at the event. The hand soap in nearby washrooms will likely be scented.

Stimming

The event will be a stim-friendly space.

Childcare

We will not be providing childcare support, but you may bring your children to this event. Anarchy is for all ages!

Barriers

We will not be providing interpretation for non-english speakers and/or Deaf or Hard of Hearing people.

There will not be a dedicated sensory destimulation area. There may be noise (especially traffic sounds from College St), crowds, and/or fragrances that you will have to leave the space or park to avoid.
